Obituary

Gerald W. Hacker, 85 yrs., of Honey Brook, passed away peacefully under the care of his wife, children and Willow Tree Hospice at his home on Sunday, January 1, 2012.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1926 in Bakers Run, WV. Gerald was the son of the late Salithinal Newton and Laura Jane (Flint) Hacker. He was the husband of Mary L. (Knight) Hacker, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Gerald retired after working for over 25 years in the maintenance dept. of Morgan Corp. of Morgantown. He enjoyed gardening, collecting old currency and was known as a storyteller, to all he came in contact with over his lifetime.

Gerald was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is survived in addition to his wife by 5 sons, Gerald L. “Bud” Hacker of Honey Brook, Marlin W. Hacker of Mohnton, S. Randall “Randy” Hacker of Morgantown, David K. Hacker of Honey Brook, Michael E. Hacker of Mohnton, 2 daughters, Eva J. Martin of Birdsboro and Shelia M. Hostetler of Morgantown, a sister, Freda Helmick of Exchange, WV. There are 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11 AM from The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, Pa. with Pastor Charles Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made in the memory of Gerald to the California Evangelical Congregational Church, 350 California Road, Morgantown, Pa. 19543.
