Obituary

John Carson Mackey Sr., 78, of Glenmoore, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Phoenixville Hospital.He was the husband of Roberta Williams Mackey, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in St. Albans, N.Y., he was the son of the late William Sr. and Elena Mae Johnson Mackey.

During the Korean War, she served in the U.S. Army. After returning from the service, he opened Mackey & Ent in Wayne, a plumbing, heating and air conditioning business in partnership with his cousin. He later opened his own business, Mackey & Co. Inc., and moved to Yellowsprings Road in Devault. In the 1980s, he moved his business to Ludwig's Corner. He opened Ludwig's Corner Hardware Store in 1974.

He was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, former treasurer and trustee.

He was a 32nd-degree Mason and was a past master of Wayne Lodge #581 F & A.M.

For many years he served East Nantmeal as chairman of the planning commission and as one of its supervisors. He was a founding member of the Countymen's Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Ann Mackey of Philadelphia and Nancy Graeme Jacobson and husband, Eric, of Santa Fe, N.M.; a son, Jon Carson Jr. and wife, Michelle, of Glenmoore; a sister, Anna Lee Christensen of Springfield; a brother, William Jr. of Birchrunville; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Cooling.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Fairview Presbyterian Church, Glenmoore.

Interment was in Fairview Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Glenmoore.
