George Whiteman of West Chester George Whiteman, 83, of West Chester, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Faye Stauffer Whiteman, he is survived by his sons, Brian D. Whiteman (Alison) of Parkesburg, and Kevin G. Whiteman (Marsha Erb) of West Chester; and granddaughters, Meghan, Haley, Jennifer and Vicky. He is also survived by his brother, Leroy Whiteman of West Chester. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth DeHaven and his brother, Lester Whiteman. Born in West Chester in 1930, he was the son of Edward and Ella Whiteman, deceased. He was a graduate of West Chester High School, class of 1949. He was also a 1977 graduate of Goldey Beacom College. He served in the United States Air Force between 1952 to 1956 during which he served two years in Japan and two years stateside. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. George was employed by Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation for 34 years. While there he was on the Board of Directors and was the secretary/assistant treasurer of the Tetco Division 3 Federal Credit Union. George was an avid bowler; loved golf and fishing with his sons and friends. He especially enjoyed his annual bass fishing trips to Lake Erie. He enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams, the Phillies and the Eagles. George was a great father that always supported his sons' activities including sports and Indian Guides. Above all else he enjoyed spending time with his family and many, many friends. George was a member of First Presbyterian Church of West Chester where he once served as president on the Board of Trustees and served on the Ushering committee. Also, he was on the executive committee of the American Legion Post 134. George enjoyed travelling with his wife and friends. He enjoyed trips with the First Presbyterian Travelers club and visited many places such as Europe where they saw the Passion Play. His favorite trips included cruises to the Caribbean, Bermuda and Alaska and trips to the shore. He enjoyed visiting Hawaii, Cancun, California and in the last ten years to their shared condo in Bradenton, Florida. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, 130 W. Miner St., West Chester, PA 19380. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Glenmoore. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19th, at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc., 410 N. Church St., West Chester; 610-696-1181, www.DELLAFH.com and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20th, at the church.
