Obituary
Shirley Rae Murta, 90 passed away suddenly at the age of 90 in the early morning hours of Saturday August 12th at her daughter’s home (Judy Love) in Secane PA, where she had been living for the last 5 years. Prior to that she was a 14-year resident of Honey Brook, PA, a 10-year resident of Ocean City, New Jersey and before that a 37- year resident of Aldan PA.
Shirley was born in York Pa where she had a wonderful childhood. She was the only child of the late George and Catherine (Wolford) Pfeiffer. She graduated from Millersville University at the top of her class with an Elementary Education degree. She then taught 2nd grade at Roosevelt School in Lower Merion School District. During that time, she married Donald Murta, her husband of 62 years. Together they raised 4 children in Aldan PA. In the 70’s Shirley returned to the workforce and was employed for many years at Suburban Office Equipment in Ardmore PA, then, once they moved to Ocean City NJ she worked at Boscov’s and then at a lawyer’s office before retiring in her 70’s.
Shirley enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing and even briefly dabbled in watercolor painting but most of all she enjoyed her family. She always had a beautiful garden full of many flowers and vegetables at her home and would always have a vase full of the gorgeous blooms from the garden and plenty of vegetables to share with family and friends. Shirley had a wonderful warm smile and a heart of gold that made everyone feel comfortable and it’s one of the things that her husband Donald and her family loved most about her. She always had a great sense of humor that everyone enjoyed and was even evident in her last days.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Donald Murta.
