Obituary
Donald Murta, 86 died Friday December 6, 2019 at Pocopson Home in Chester County, Pennsylvania where he lived for the last year and a half. He was a 14 year resident of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, prior to that he was a 10 year resident of Ocean City, New Jersey and before that a 37 year resident of Aldan Pennsylvania.
Mr. Murta was born in Philadelphia and spent his childhood in Collingdale then Wynnewood. He attended the Valley Forge Military Academy and then Episcopal Academy where he graduated in 1952. He also attended what is now Pierce College.
His father was the owner of Murta’s Furniture at 54th and Chester in Philadelphia and after his father died, Mr. Murta and his brother Walter Murta became co-owners. They expanded to a second location on West Chester Pk. near City Ave. It was a well-known family business within the community and many people have fond memories of Murta’s Furniture. After they sold the business in the late 1970’s he worked as a representative of furniture manufacturers to stores and also worked with local contractors designing decks. He surveyed sites and generated the designs using a CAD program.
Mr. Murta had many interests and talents but most of all he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of the Yeadon Fire Company for 12 yrs. and drove the ambulance. He loved astronomy, hunting, fishing, boating, wildlife, birdwatching, and loved his country. He was also very handy and could fix just about anything or find a creative way to get the job done.
He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley (nee Pfeiffer) Murta, daughters Judy (Robert Shimpeno) Love and Linda (Daniel) Lefferts, sons Scott (Kelly) Murta and David (Andi) Murta nine grandchildren; Nicole, Jason, Brian, Amy, Catherine, Amber, Drew, Michael, Alex and great grandson Jonathan.
