Obituary

Linda Kathryn Shaver of Reston, Va. Linda Kathryn Shaver, 66, of Reston, Va., passed away from metastasized breast cancer on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Reston Hospital in Reston, Va. She lived in Reston with her husband, Russell and her cat, Zelda. Linda was born on July 16, 1945 in Coatesville, to Guy and Mary Mercer. She had three siblings, Pearl A. Frey of Spring House, Pa., William G. Mercer of West Chester and Betty J. Algier of Kingsport, Tenn. Linda moved to Santa Monica, Calif. in 1969 where she met her husband Russell, while working at the Rand Corporation and was married to him in March of 1977. Their two children, Jennifer Shaver (July 11, 1983), and Susan Witham (May 21, 1985) were born in Santa Monica, Calif. in St. John's Hospital. In September 1994, Linda and her family moved to Reston, Va. where she continued to maintain her home and raise her two children. Linda enjoyed painting, giving to charitable organizations, watching the 700 Club and spending time with her children. Linda was lovingly called Nona by her only grandchild, Rosalie E. Witham, who was born on August 4, 2009. Nona spoiled Rosalie, who she called "my baby" and was happy to be at Rosalie's beck and call. Linda is survived by her husband, two daughters, granddaughter, and three siblings. She will be loved and missed dearly by her family and friends. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 800 Fairview Rd., Glenmoore, where Linda will be laid to rest.
